One Man Fishing Boats

Throughout recorded history, humans have always been fishing.  In earlier days though, catching fish wasn’t just a fun way to pass the weekend, but also an important skill passed down from parents to their children to ensure that they would always have a way to eat.  Despite modern agriculture and refrigeration and supermarkets and fast food and making the art and skill of fishing an unnecessary way of providing humans a meal, sport angling continues to grow in popularity.  Perhaps one of the reasons so many people spend their free time with a rod and reel is fishing allows them the opportunity to get away from the noise and stress of our modern world and busy lives.  More important than catching fish maybe is the chance to spend time decompressing in the solitude of nature.  For those looking for tranquility, peace and quiet, not much can ruin a fishing trip quicker than taking along someone who is going “out there” to decompress with a six pack of beer, a stereo and a party time agenda.

Maybe that is why one of the fastest growing markets in the fishing industry is for small, personal watercraft that allow angling enthusiasts many of the same advantages of larger vessels, but without the room for annoying tag-alongs that can ruin an otherwise lovely time on the water.  Kayaks, Stand-Up Paddleboards and an ever expanding variety of other individual watercraft continue to grow in popularity.

Individual watercraft rank so high in popularity for a multitude of reasons.  Smaller watercraft means lighter weight, and many models are light enough for an individual to car top or load into the back of a pick-up bed, removing the need for expensive boat trailers that lower gas mileage and require yearly registration fees.  Another cost saving feature of personal watercraft are they save anglers on gas expenses.  Kayaks and SUP’s are powered with paddles, and many other vessels can be propelled easily via smaller electric trolling motors.  Some newer watercraft hitting the marketplace include small, circular boats inspired by the Coracle design most popular in Welsh, Irish and Scottish lakes and rivers.  With ample deck space and storage, a motor mount and self-bailing features, the Roundabout by Roundabout Watercrafts is a great example of a modern day coracle inspired design for an individual day on the water.

But the best thing about all individual watercraft is still the ability to get some alone time when you are out there on the water.  Brought along a buddy with a kayak from work that is scaring off all your fish with a loud radio?  Just paddle off to another spot on the water.  Needing a quiet morning on the lake without your kids pestering you?  Tell them that you’re sorry but your kayak only has one seat.  You can be the Captain of your own ship without the need for a crew.  If you enjoy the time to yourself as much as hooking a fish, then try out the freedom of choosing your own way to spend your time on the water with a smaller, individual sized boat.  You won’t regret it.
